Climbing to Fight
Sun Tzu said, “Camp in high places, facing the sun. Do not climb heights in order to fight. So much for mountain warfare.”
A business, should place themselves in the high place. This is the place where they have absolute advantage and can win over the competition.
If a business climbs mountains to get better positioning, it can be a mistake. The thing about climbing a mountain is that it tires you out. It is difficult. A business that climbs a mountain to compete with another will find that they do not have the strength to win. This isn't to say you should have the higher ground. You absolutely need the higher ground. You just don't want to go around climbing mountains and engage the enemy in mountain warfare. It is a much better strategy to get a good position and wait for the enemy to come to you. Then, they will be the tired ones that you can beat.
