Do not Attack
Sun Tzu said, “If he is secured at all points, be ready for him. If he is in superior strength evade him.”
In business, there are some companies and markets that you simply do not want to fight. Some companies have superior strength. You can't beat them and should avoid fighting with them. Some companies, on a more even playing field, are secured well at all angles. The well secured company will put up a big battle. You should prepare and be ready for them.
One company that is of superior strength is Microsoft. So many companies have tried to knock them down, and they just continue to do really well. They are a superior competitor. In the steel industry, there is a great company called Nucor that is excellent at managing people and being lean. They have succeeded where many steel companies have gone out of business. In other words, pick a fight with someone that is inefficient or that doesn't work hard;you will have a much better chance.
A company that is secured at all points is one that runs well. For example, the management is good, the accountants are good, and the sales people work hard and do well. A well managed company like this is going to give you a good run for your money. You should prepare wisely and well for the battle that will rage.
