Forcing a Fight
If someone has superior position and won't come out, you may need to force them out. The way to do that is to attack something else that they do not want to lose. That will force them to change position.
In business, some companies have great positioning. They have been in the business a long time and have superior strength. If you want to engage them on better ground, you will need to get them to come out of their comfortable “bunker”. One way to do this is to compete fiercely with them in a smaller area of the business. You might go after a subsidiary, for example. Find a product that they carry that they don't have a great deal of superiority in. That will give you a great advantage in competing with them.
If someone is trying to force a fight with you, send them something a little strange. You might show them something odd so that they stop and try and figure out what is going on. Nobody wants to attack in the face of confusion. Something odd or crazy is a great distraction.
