Goal of War
Sun Tzu said, “In war, then, let your great object be victory, not lengthy campaigns.”
The goal of war is to win and take control. The purpose of war isn't to kill a lot of people and fight in a lot of battles. Fighting and killing should still be avoided in a war.
In business, sometimes people forget that the real purpose of the business is to make money. Many small businesses are so happy that they are just in the game and waging battles. What they should really be happy about is if they are making money. People want to enjoy their work and want to do it happily. They can become short sighted as they forget the real goal of the business, to make money.
If your goal is not to have a lengthy campaign, then you should make as much money with the least effort possible. Mounting a large effort does not mean there will be a big payoff. In fact, it is usually just the opposite. Making a lot of money is usually easier than making very little. Effective businesses will focus on something that is easy for them to do and that they can do better than anyone else. That way there are no lengthy campaigns and the money is good.
