Life and Death
Sun Tzu Said, “It is a matter of life and death, a road to safety or to ruin. Hence it is a subject of inquiry which can on no account be neglected.”
A business is really a road of life and death. You need money to buy food, clothing, and shelter. Without money your whole life gets complicated and difficult. Some people under money stresses lose their families, their homes, and sometimes their life. A business leader should remember that the stakes are high. A business isn't just for fun, it is a matter of life and death.
According to Sun Tzu, if you were a general and were not respected or listened to, you would be killed in front of the subjects. It seems very harsh, but the point needs to be strongly pointed out that war is a matter of life and death. Until people really understand what is at stake they will take it lightly.
In business leaders, they must get across to their subordinates the importance of the mission and just how much is at stake. If the leader cannot convey the seriousness of the matter and gain subordinate support, then they should be relieved of their duties.
