The Ground
Sun Tzu said, “All armies prefer high ground to low and sunny places to dark. If you are careful of your men, and camp on hard ground, the army will be free from disease of every kind, and this will spell victory. When you come to a hill or a bank, occupy the sunny side, with the slope on your right rear. Thus you will at once act for the benefit of your soldiers and utilize the natural advantages of the ground.”
High Ground
In business, employees prefer high ground to low ground. Would you rather work for a highly profitable company or one that must keep you running all day long just to eek out a tiny profit. The high ground company is going to be a lot easier to work for and more enjoyable.
Sunny Places
The sunny places are places of warmth. The sun brings with it good health and life. In a business, the sunny place can be a good environment to work in. Is the temperature good? Are there good chairs to sit in? Can you replace items that are broken? Do people show others respect or do they hurt others without reprisal? The employees that are treated with respect and given a nice place to work are on the sunny side.
Hard Ground
Camping on hard ground is good because wet places cause sickness. Have you ever slept at night in cold wet clothing. It wears you down. Even if you just have to be in wet shoes all day long, it isn't as nice as dry ground. The soldier must be dry and comfortable to be the healthiest.
In business, the hard dry ground is ground that is solid for the employees. There are some companies that choose to put their workers in inhospitable conditions that cause weakness, fatigue, and disease. For example, some manufacturing plants in China would refuse to give a worker a glove that protected them from a chemical that was very toxic. As a result, many workers would live only a few years, in the position. Only after man complaints and suffering were the workers finally able to get one glove. This is an example of camping in the wet ground. The workers have low moral and will not live as long.
Many of the best employees prefer these things: high ground, sunny slopes, and hard ground encampment. They will leave employers that cannot provide these things.
Slope on the Right Rear
The land will give natural advantages. A factory should be placed in a spot that has natural advantage. For example, it should be close to shipping terminals. It should be close to the workers. The factory should be in an area that is nice to live in. The factory should be near supply chain resources. The business should account for all the factors they need to make it run. Then, a location should be based on the natural advantage the business gives.
