Winning
If you win, people will congratulate you. If you make a lot of money, in business, and buy a nice home and some nice cars, people will tell you that you are doing well. You may feel good and should be congratulated. However, it is also an appropriate question to ask, At what cost, did this fortune come? Did you have fun? Do you still have a family that loves you?
Sun Tzu says, “What the ancients called a clever fighter is one who not only wins, but excels in winning with ease.”
Many people are so focused on winning that they just work themselves to death. It is better to focus on ways to win that are easier. The way to do this is to choose your niche wisely and choose partners wisely.
When do You Win?
When you win with ease, people will not think you are wise or brave. When something appears really easy for someone, they often do not get the respect they deserve.
The skilled business leader should know that the battle of competition is won before the battle ever begins. Sun Tzu said it like this, “Thus it is that in war the victorious strategist only seeks battle after the victory has been won, whereas he who is destined to defeat first fights and afterwards looks for victory.”
The way to a business victory is to choose your niche wisely. You should go into a business venture that you know you can succeed at. The math should add up. The competition should be surveyed. The opportunity must be carefully evaluated. If all the homework is done properly, the battle will be won right then and there. The matter of execution and winning is simply a matter of not making mistakes.
So many people dive right in because they have the desire. They feel good working and competing. They are happy just to be in the game. The smarter person will spend countless hours working hard at evaluating opportunity and making plans. This is part of running a business. A lot of small business owners work so much at getting the day to day functions operating that they never get to really manage the business strategy. That is why it is vital to do a lot of homework before undertaking a project.
